What is the opportunity?

The Senior Manager, Financial Control role is a pivotal strategic and enablement function that serves as the Bank’s ‘second line of defense’. As a key member of the Personal Banking Canada Financial Control team, the senior manager will provide proper accounting advisory for new products and initiatives, implement effective processes, and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial information captured in RBC’s results. The role has a primary focus on Personal Banking & Investment (PBI) lines of business.

What you will do?
  • Accounting Advisory – Assess accounting implications of new initiatives and implement accounting policies in consultation with the Accounting Policy Group to enable business partners to make informed decisions.
  • Financial Reporting – Review quarterly financial disclosures and related variance analysis, monitor monthly financial results, and investigate any unusual or abnormal financial outcomes.
  • Establishing the financial infrastructure for Personal Banking Canada products – Assess financial risk, establish proper infrastructure & processes, and provide ongoing oversight to ensure financial results are complete, accurate, and risks are adequately managed.
  • Monitoring the Financial Control environment – Perform review of Standard of Documentation (SOD) and follow-up on queries to ensure timely resolution. Perform and update SOX controls.
  • Data strategy and other projects – Lead a number of data strategy projects and ad hoc initiatives to enhance the transparency and accuracy of the data utilized for financial reporting and business analysis.
  • Process Transformation – Identify opportunities to automate & streamline processes, and support business in implementing process improvements.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects as directed including accounting policy implementation, rectifying SOX deficiencies, etc.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
  • CPA, CA or equivalent – This mandate is highly dependent on skills commonly associated with accounting designations.
  • 7+ years working experience, ideally for financial institutions.
  • Strong IFRS working knowledge.
  • Knowledge of retail banking products or willingness and interest in developing that knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to collaborate and obtain buy-ins from multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deliverables within a tight timeline.
  • Excellent Excel skills and presentation skills.
Nice-to-have
  • Strong knowledge of the RBC financial systems.
