Job Description
The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA), STaR Products, reports to the Sr Finance Manager. The SFA is responsible for executing financial reporting for the assigned division, validating product results to ensure accurate and complete information, and providing timely information to internal and external stakeholders. The SFA serves as a proactive finance business partner, delivering value-added financial analysis and recommendations to support divisional operational leadership teams. Responsibilities
- Reporting and month-end activities: Lead or assist with month-end close activities (e.g., accruals), ensuring accuracy and validating with relevant business partners as required.
- Prepare accurate and insightful monthly/quarterly reporting for various teams (Supply, Wholesale, Transloads & Terminals).
- Support the broader team in developing monthly/quarterly reporting packages with executive-level explanations of operational results and market trends.
- Investigate financial reporting anomalies for root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare journal entries and working papers for month-end and quarter-end.
- Collaborate with the Shared Services Team to investigate, troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
- Liaise with Corporate Finance on quarterly reporting packages and with Risk and Controls on control validation.
- Develop relationships with internal stakeholders to understand business activities, trading strategies, and compliance requirements; stay aware of industry practices and changes.
- Drive continuous improvement by analyzing operational results and identifying key business/mar ket trends and opportunities.
- Develop financial models, charts, graphs, or summaries to identify trends and support new initiatives for decision making.
- Annual Budgeting Process: Support the annual budget and monthly forecast processes; contribute to presenting budget assumptions, drivers, and variances for senior leadership and the Board.
- Other: Support Corporate Development, Investor Relations and Strategy teams; participate in business change and system process improvements; ensure process documentation is accurate and up to date; lead root-cause analysis and targeted improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Professional Accounting Designation, MBA, CA or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance or economics with a minimum of 5+ years in a relevant strategic Corporate Finance role (e.g., financial reporting, controllership).
- Experience with month-end close processes/activities including accruals.
- Working knowledge of JD Edwards, SAP (or similar), Oracle EPM, Power BI and Tableau; BI tools are an asset.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; ability to manipulate large data sets and extract value-added information from multiple databases.
- Ability to build cross-department relationships and foster collaborative decision making.
- Strong business sense and curiosity about key drivers and the impact of operational events on financial results; ability to challenge assumptions.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with confidential, time-sensitive issues; capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to share knowledge, ask questions, and work toward common goals.
