Overview

This role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a temporary, full-time, Senior Financial Analyst to join our Corporate Services Division. In this role, you will be a proven financial professional with 7 years' experience and will ably support the business while providing strategic direction, sound business insights, and improving financial processes. You will join a broader team of financial professionals nationally, who in support of the Canadian Blood Services' mission are committed to serving the organization and each other, growing and helping each other develop.

Formula for Success

  • Support the development of robust financial plans for decision making with excellent costing, modelling and sophisticated accounting advice.
  • Provide financial leadership by developing high trust relationships with leadership teams and staff.
  • Communicate a deep understanding of the business, its priorities, metrics, cost drivers, trends, opportunities and risks.
  • Supports process improvement analysis utilizing established financial and non-financial key performance indicators (KPI), data, and metrics.
  • Present sound and robust financial analysis and insights that includes internal and external factors to help optimize costs in a sustainable way with effective data packaging.
  • Coach and improve the financial acumen and decision-making of the people you support.
  • Lead and manage the budget, forecast, and management reporting processes for a complex portfolio with little direction and the ability to work through ambiguity.
  • Supporting change for FP&A team as well as corporate wide processes or reporting.
  • May include leading, managing and developing staff.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as required to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Qualifications

Desired Education and Skills

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in a similar role is required.
  • Canadian CPA accounting designation in good standing or comparable finance or accounting designation in good standing is required.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting principles, financial and managerial accounting is essential.
  • Advanced experience with Excel and PowerPoint is essential.
  • Experience in a large not-for-profit or health care organization is beneficial.
  • Experience with IBM Planning Analytics (TM1), SAP or an equivalent ERP application is beneficial.
  • Experience with complex supply chains and manufacturing is beneficial.
  • Initiative to develop deep and nuanced subject matter expertise for assigned business units, including the interconnection with other business areas. Excellent at knowing when, how much, and who to lean on for perspective and thought partnering support where the analysis required is complex.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; client-focused thinking with the ability to develop trusting relationship at all levels and to become integrated into strategy and decision making of the business unit.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and care in the use of, and application of financial information.
  • Excellent analytical, costing, and modelling skills including relating operational and financial data, summarizing complex information and highlight salient points in insightful ways to drive business decisions. Provides recommendations, and highlights improvements to business units to influence cost optimization considering cross-functional impacts and stewardship of Canadian Blood Services funds.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with clear connected thoughts, and confident and engaging presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong collaboration skills while working with colleagues and management.
  • Follows through on commitments by considering prioritization, sequencing and delegating that balances individual and team resources, skills, and deliverables.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
