Under general supervision, the Senior Financial Analyst accomplishes financial analysis assignments on an individual or cooperative basis. This includes performing complex and in-depth financial analysis; developing, maintaining, consolidating, or modifying financial models, budget documents, and reports; and providing technical and functional guidance to other finance staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of public finances and operations including budget process and procedures, budget variance analysis, fund accounting, goal setting and policy formulation process, expenditure and revenue structure, debt financing, chart of accounts, internal and external financial reports, condition analysis or financial trend monitoring, and capital improvement programming.
Broad knowledge of standards and best practices pertaining to Municipal finance and operations. Familiarity with Public Sector Accounting Standards is an asset.
Education and Experience:
Degree specializing in accounting or related field, combined with four (4) years of accounting and budgeting experience in a computerized accounting and budgeting environment including variance reporting, with extensive use of spreadsheet and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is required.
Previous public sector experience is an asset.
