If you're looking to make an impact in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment where your expertise is valued, this is the role for you.

Position Overview

As a Senior Energy & Sustainability Analyst, you'll be at the forefront of SSES's technical service delivery. The position involves conducting ASHRAE energy audits (Levels I–III), performing advanced energy modeling, completing building condition assessments, and guiding clients through energy project implementation. Beyond audits, you'll help organizations identify cost-effective retrofits, access incentive funding, and reduce their carbon footprint.

This role reports directly to the President and is intended to evolve into a leadership position, giving you the opportunity to build and mentor a growing technical team while influencing the direction of the firm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver ASHRAE Level I–III audits across a range of building types; analyze performance data and recommend energy-saving measures.
  • Prepare and calibrate energy models (IES, eQuest, RETScreen or similar) to quantify savings and verify retrofit outcomes.
  • Support clients in capital planning by developing business cases, evaluating technologies, and preparing incentive applications.
  • Oversee energy project lifecycles: from feasibility study to vendor selection and project execution.
  • Automate and streamline audit / reporting processes through tools and templates, enhancing efficiency.
  • Conduct technical evaluations for ECMs such as HVAC system upgrades, VFD applications, chiller / boiler replacements, and lighting conversions.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations that communicate findings, cost savings, and GHG reduction opportunities.
  • Provide support on compliance reporting, benchmarking, and disclosure regulations.
  • Research emerging technologies and create client-facing tools for project feasibility analysis.
  • Collaborate with internal staff and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Contribute thought-leadership content on sustainability for use in the commercial real estate and co-operative housing sectors.
Required Background
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or equivalent technical field).
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience, ideally within an energy consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with ASHRAE Level II / III audits.
  • Familiarity with energy modeling software (IES, eQuest, RETScreen, etc.).
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, particularly with macros / VBA.
  • Skilled technical writer with the ability to distill complex concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Professional designations such as P.Eng, CEM, or CMVP are considered strong assets.
