Job description
Overview

Agilus is recruiting for a Senior Ecologist in the multidisciplinary engineering firm in Burlington, Ontario. The Ecologist will lead projects that protect ecosystems, support responsible development, and help clients navigate complex environmental regulations. This person will join the Environmental Division and work out of Burlington, London or Kitchener offices.

A typical day:

  • Provide senior technical review and reporting on natural environment topics and potential impacts of development for submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Apply relevant environmental policies and criteria to aquatic and/or terrestrial systems, obtain permits and authorizations, recommend best practices, mitigation measures, and compensation strategies.
  • Lead proposal development and participate in business development activities.
  • Manage and coordinate projects.
  • Plan and oversee field programs.
Qualifications
  • University degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science.
  • 10 years relevant experience with advanced knowledge in at least one specialized discipline (e.g., fisheries biology, ecological restoration, wetland ecology, SAR).
  • Expertise in aquatic and/or terrestrial ecology.
  • Project management abilities.
  • Exceptional technical writing and senior‑level review capabilities.
  • In‑depth knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal environmental policies and legislation (e.g., Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Planning Act, Conservation Authorities Act, Provincial Policy Statements).
  • Experience conducting natural heritage impact assessments and developing mitigation and compensation plans.
