Job description
Overview

At Kabam, we’re constantly raising the bar of excellence in free-to-play gaming. We hire for passion and diversity so that we can triumph in our collective skill. Our teams are bound together by a collaborative nature, a fun-loving culture, and a drive to make great games. This is where you come in.

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist with a focus on machine learning and statistical methods to change the way we make and operate our world-class games. This person will design, implement and own end-to-end production on machine learning systems in a cloud environment. If you want to foster a data-driven culture, focus on statistical testing and rigour, mentor junior team members, and work cross-functionally in a fast-paced industry, this may be the role for you.

Responsibilities
  • Opportunity Identification and value assessment: Identify opportunities for machine learning and automated data-driven services in our products; assess potential value, risks and costs; architect solutions derived from functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Data Extraction and Analysis: Use SQL to query our petabyte-scale data warehouse; conduct exploratory data analysis, statistical testing, and feature engineering; work with data engineers to form requirements for data pipelines and feature stores; review work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Machine Learning System Ownership: Develop and own end-to-end machine learning systems; deploy models in a cloud environment (batch/real-time predictions, microservices, and monitoring); assist junior members; become a recognised expert in specific ML areas within the business.
  • Statistical testing and experimental design: Design experiments with stakeholders; analyse results; contribute to the Bayesian A/B testing platform; communicate technical results to non-technical audiences; promote a statistically driven approach to problem solving.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate project goals, progress, and outcomes with production, design, and engineering teams; present data visually; work with senior stakeholders to understand future requirements.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a STEM discipline, preferably thesis-based
  • 4+ years of industry experience in data science, preferably in large-scale client-facing software/web/applications
  • Expert level Python programming skills
  • Deep knowledge of machine learning libraries such as scikit-learn and PyTorch
  • Experience deploying machine learning models into production
  • Expert SQL skills and appreciation for data engineering principles
  • Strong data visualization skills, preferably with Tableau
  • Comfortable in cloud environments, particularly GCP and Databricks
  • Ability to drive projects independently, navigate imperfect data or experimentation, and pivot goals with ease
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior team members
  • Clear, concise, and professional communication with staff at all levels; justify decisions and achieve peer consensus
Benefits and Workplace
  • Extended Health Coverage from day one, including health, dental, life, disability, and extended paramedical services
  • Flexible Spending Accounts including commuter benefits and dependent care
  • 401K Matching with contribution matching
  • PTO and Parental Leave including paid parental leave, unlimited PTO, volunteering time off, sick leave, and holiday closures
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program for mental health and well-being support
  • Learning and growth through regular sessions and a stipend for learning and personal development
  • Pay transparency with clear career maps and pay range information
  • Hybrid Work with in-office presence encouraged while supporting remote work

Salary: $128,000 - $143,000 a year. The typical hiring range listed is specific to candidates located in Vancouver. The salary will be determined based on knowledge, skills and competencies, with room to grow after joining.
