Role Summary
The Senior Project Manager establishes and directs the strategic program or projects which have been assigned. These are business focused with minimal technology project management activities. They include meeting regulatory and audit requirements, business process changes, operational efficiency improvements, process reengineering, and infrastructure upgrades and deployments. Such strategic projects are often highly complex and large-scale in nature, spanning multiple functions and/or business groups/Lines of Business (LoBs). The Senior Project Manager holds the primary project relationship with Program Director/Senior Managers and executives, and ensures that a successful business outcome is the prime measure of success. The Senior Project Manager coordinates team members (for potentially multiple projects) including other project managers, business and technology resources, user groups, internal and external consultants, contractors, vendors, and is accountable for delivery of the end-to-end assigned program/projects.
Typical Day in Role
- Ensures program/project milestones and schedule reflect delivery commitments of subsidiary projects;Develops and maintains an integrated delivery plan.
- Directs strategic projects within lines of business and manages subsidiary projects and stakeholders.
- Accountable for end-to-end projects and related sub-projects.
- Ensures the program is staffed with the right mix of people with required perspectives, skills, and behaviours.
- Plans and delivers assigned strategic projects/programs, ensuring cross-program coordination of activities, deliverables, and benefits.
- Leads all aspects of the program/project lifecycle with matrix partners in business, line of business and technology.
- Provides regular communications with business partners at various levels (including SVP/VP) and sustains relationships with accountable executives; offers sound advice and support.
- Ensures high-quality results with a clearly articulated scope and measurable business benefits.
- Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the program leadership team to coordinate subsidiary projects with the business vision and regulatory deadlines.
- Chairs regular program forums (e.g., Steering Committees) to review progress with key team members and executives.
- Leads program change management to drive transformation and ensures change mechanisms are in place to deliver benefits.
- Identifies, quantifies, and manages program-level issues and risks; escalates as needed per Transformation Office standards.
- Ensures commitments are achieved within scope, time, cost, and quality parameters; manages overall program budget and tracking of budgets vs. actuals.
- Develops required project artifacts (charter, management plans for resources, risk, quality, communications, etc.) in line with enterprise standards.
- Negotiates complex contracts with external vendors (in consultation with Strategic Sourcing) to secure resources/materials and ensure value; manages day-to-day vendor relationships, performance, and invoicing.
Candidate Requirements / Must Have Skills
- 10+ years of experience as a PMP Certified Project Manager with strong experience working with Big 5 Canadian banks as a seasoned contractor.
- 10+ years of expert experience with stakeholder management and influencing skills, capable of balancing multiple perspectives, effective at all levels up to senior executive.
- 10+ years of experience with exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, enabling the recognition and analysis of complex issues.
- 10+ years of expertise in the use of program/project tools (e.g., Clarity, MS Project, SharePoint repositories, SDLC).
- Strong experience managing large-scale projects or programs of significant complexity and value (approximately $20M) with high risk.
Nice-To-Have Skills
- Previous experience with AML/Compliance/Risk management.
- Sound business and technical acumen, ability to learn quickly and connect programs/projects to broader organizational goals; grasp key performance drivers of business partners.

Education
- Holding a valid PMP designation from PMI or other program management certification (e.g., Prince2) is preferable.
