Senior Biologist

Our Environment Team has one of the most experienced environmental and geosciences engineering consulting teams in Canada. We are seeking a Senior Biologist to join our Environmental Permitting & Management (EP&M) Team. This is a senior level role preferably based out of our Calgary or Saskatoonoffices. Other office locations across the Prairies may be considered.

As a Senior Biologist you will lead and support biological assessment, monitoring, reporting and field-based surveys across a wide variety of energy and infrastructure projects.You must have strong work experience in biological sciences, and specialization in either wildlife biology, vegetation or aquatic biology. You will be a key member of the team reinforcing our reputation for technical excellence, working collaboratively and delivering innovative work mostly across our infrastructure, power, and renewables client portfolios.

Location: Calgary or Saskatoon offices. Edmonton, Regina, or Winnipeg could be considered as well.

Your role within the team:

  • Develop and deliver technical studies in support of EIA and other work including technical advice to clients and colleagues on legislation, regulation or policy.
  • Provide leadership through mentoring and guidance to support career development.
  • Design and implement field programs for the collection of baseline data, guide research, author key reports, as well as provide senior technical reviews.
  • Provide client and stakeholder engagement with government agencies, Indigenous communities and interest groups, through presentations, workshops and publications.
  • You will contribute to the overall strategic development of EP&M, including technical excellence, growth, profitability and business development. This includes preparations of proposals, project management, and client maintenance and development.
  • You will be working as a positive team contributor and leader, and be highly motivated and proactive, with a confident and professional manner to utilize your ability to think independently, critically and strategically, with excellent written, analytical and presentational skills.

The ideal candidate:

  • Master’s degree and a minimum of 10 years’ expertise in terrestrial, vegetation, wetlands, aquatics biology or ecology management (or a Bachelor’s degree and 12 years’ relevant experience).
  • Registered Professional Biologist designation (PBiol) preferred or the ability to obtain the designation within 6-9 months upon being hired.
  • Experience or oversight on permits/authorizations such as under Fisheries Act, Canadian Environmental Protection Act, Canadian Navigable Waters Act, Species at Risk Act and other environmental acts or regulations.
  • Experience in Environment Effects Monitoring studies.
  • Knowledge of ecosystems and experience in Impact Assessment methodology and Environmental Assessment process in the Prairies and Canada.
  • Technical leadership experience on large-scale and complex projects.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record. Willingness to travel across Canada, for a week or more at a time, and potential routine field programs with active projects.
