Job description

Bizzabo, a global leader in event technology, is seeking a Senior Back-End Developer to join the R&D hub in Ukraine. You will play a key role in scaling a unified event platform that powers high-volume transactions, real-time data flows, and AI-driven capabilities for leading enterprises.

This position is aimed at an engineer who naturally takes architectural ownership. You will design and implement robust, highly available distributed systems, ensuring stability, performance, and reliability at scale while contributing to the long-term technical vision of the platform.

Bizzabo’s Event Experience Operating System is a modern, intuitive platform used by the world’s leading organizations to deliver immersive experiences and events at scale. Named a Leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ and Forrester Wave™ for event technology, enterprises rely on Bizzabo to manage their entire event portfolio, regardless of format or size. Bizzabo is recognized by Newsweek as a 2024 Global Most Loved Workplace and as a 2024 Top Most Loved Workplaces® for LGBTQ+ employees. Bizzabo was founded in 2011 by Boaz Katz, Alon Alroy, and Eran Ben‑Shushan and is headquartered in New York and Tel Aviv.

Requirements

What you will be doing:

  • Take architectural ownership of critical services: lead design, set technical standards, and mentor teammates to raise the overall engineering bar.
  • Design and evolve high-throughput microservices using Kotlin and Java with Spring Boot in a cloud-native environment.
  • Build and maintain high-scale data pipelines using Apache Kafka for real-time event streaming and reliable asynchronous workflows.
  • Manage deployment, scaling, and resilience of services running on Kubernetes within AWS-based infrastructure.
  • Design fault‑tolerant, self‑healing systems with a strong focus on observability, including tracing, logging, and metrics.
  • Collaborate with product, data, and DevOps teams to deliver features end-to-end, from discovery and design to production.
  • Work with and help shape AI‑assisted development practices and AI‑powered features in the platform, without being tied to a single specific product line.

What you have:

  • 5+ years of experience building scalable server‑side systems in production.
  • Strong proficiency in Java with extensive experience using Spring Boot.
  • Proven experience designing, deploying, and operating large‑scale distributed systems and microservices.
  • Practical experience running containerized services on Kubernetes in a cloud‑native setup.
  • Solid experience with event‑driven architectures and streaming platforms such as Kafka.
  • Strong background with relational databases, preferably MySQL, including performance and query optimization.
  • Good understanding of observability practices: distributed tracing, structured logging, metrics, and monitoring.
  • Ability to take ownership, work independently, and communicate clearly within a cross‑functional team.

What would be a bonus:

  • Experience with Kotlin in production back‑end services.
  • Experience with Temporal.io or similar workflow orchestration systems.
  • Background in payment systems or other high‑security, high‑throughput transactional domains.
  • Hands‑on experience with Elasticsearch for search, analytics, or logging use cases.
  • Experience working with AI tooling or integrating LLM‑powered capabilities into back‑end services.
