We are looking for a motivated Information Risk and Compliance Analyst to join the dynamic Value Management Risk and Governance team within OMERS Data and Technology.

Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Manager, AI, Information Risk and Compliance, in this role you will:

  • Assist with the development of the Enterprise Information Governance and Artificial Intelligence Governance policies, standards and processes to mitigate risk and comply with regulatory information requirements
  • Support the AI Governance Program to ensure AI systems are developed, deployed, and maintained in alignment with ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational values
  • Support enhancements to our existing Data Classification processes

To be successful in this role, you will develop and nurture strong relationships with key governance partners (including Technology Teams, Risk, Privacy, Cybersecurity, Internal Audit, Compliance, Legal) and OMERS business units to identify applicable laws, regulations and industry standards governing the handling of records, data and AI. You will also assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of key processes and controls for complying with those requirements, such as data classification, protection, retention and disposition processes. In doing so, you will directly strengthen our compliance practices, manage risks to our organization and help optimize the ability of data to support a diverse array of global business functions.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:
  • Understanding OMERS business functions, activities and transactions, as well as data, information, records management and AI best practices to support compliance with external requirements and minimize risks to OMERS people, processes and assets
  • Working with business units to elicit, analyze and validate external requirements and translate these requirements into information governance controls, including data classification, retention, disposition and protection requirements
  • Supporting the ongoing Data Sensitivity Classification program by conducting routine classification exercises for data repositories as part of Data & Technology’s Solution Design Review Process
  • Facilitating decision making across all areas of the business through application of information management methodologies and controls aimed at minimizing risk and aligning with identified requirements
  • Helping OMERS to remain on the leading edge of emerging data and AI technologies and techniques by identifying industry innovations and related information and data risk and compliance challenges
  • Driving a culture of compliance, risk management and innovation by supporting training and enablement activities
To succeed in this role, you have:
  • Degree or diploma in Information Science, Information Technology Management, Law, Compliance or Policy Management, Computer Science, Data Science, or a relevant professional certification
  • 1–3 years of experience developing policies, processes, and governance controls related to AI, data, information, and/or personal information
  • Solid understanding of Data and Information Governance concepts and best practices, such as Data Classification, Data Retention and Disposition, and Metadata Management
  • Experience identifying and assessing legal and regulatory requirements impacting the handling of data
  • Experience applying data and information governance controls to electronic systems, including structured databases and electronic records management systems
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML technologies and their societal and regulatory implications
  • Familiarity with AI governance frameworks such as NIST AI RMF, OECD AI Principles, and ISO/IEC 42001
  • Ability to facilitate discussions across diverse stakeholder groups, including technology, legal, and risk teams, asking clarifying questions and undertaking independent research where required
  • Demonstrated experience in project and time management, including successful delivery of projects
  • Analytical skills with the ability to navigate complex legal and technical language and industry standards
  • Knowledge and expertise in data governance technology, such as Collibra, and its use for data classification is an asset
  • Experience working in the Finance, Pensions, Investments, or Commercial Real Estate sectors is an asset
