Job Description
Allied Universal is seeking Professional Security Guards in Cornwall Ontario Canada.
Title: Security Professionals Patient Watch
Location: Cornwall Ontario
Type: Swing/Rotational
Pay Rate: $20.45
Shift: varied
Responsibilities
- Management of all lost and found items as per site policies.
- Deals with Staff and the Public in a confident, professional manner and de‑escalate volatile situations. E.g., liaise with people in waiting areas in situations of high volumes/extended wait times to manage expectations and maintain a de‑escalated situation.
- Regularly patrol all interior and exterior building(s) and areas of property, including parking areas. Electronically record check‑in points, as required by site.
- Show professional, visible presence in general exterior area, ED waiting room, at access points, shift changes, and upon request to specific locations (e.g., in view of a particular patient).
- Control removal of assets and equipment from the building.
- Manages building entry and egress access control, as required.
- Monitor surveillance systems, alarms, intrusion detection systems and fire detection.
- Notify the Security Manager or other designated staff members of any safety hazards, maintenance problems, and other concerns, unusual events, and/or suspicious activity.
- Document duties performed on shift and involvement of incidents and create necessary notes and reports.
- Enforce hospital policies as they relate to smoking/vaping on hospital property, including parking lot areas.
- Understand purchaser policies and procedures as they relate to security.
- Perform security escorts, as required.
- Assist, support, and cooperate with staff, police, fire, and EMS as needed.
- Respond to calls for locking and unlocking doors and elevators, arranging access to controlled areas (e.g. Morgue, conference rooms, Family Care Centre, stores supplies), as needed.
- Locks and unlocks elevators and places in fire mode for the Fire Department, when required.
- Respond to emergency codes and other types of security‑related emergencies as they occur; participate in debriefings when requested.
- Respond to secondary sites as required by the purchaser.
- Manage and respond to issues at the parking lot gates and pay stations.
- Perform Patient Watch / Rapid Response Security Guard duties, as a replacement or if required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid Ontario Security License.
- High School Diploma required.
- 1‑2 years of experience as a security guard.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada up to 40 hours a week.
- Good written and oral communication.
- Good interpersonal skills and problem‑solving abilities.
- First aid and CPR level C.
- Certified use of force training; certified to use handcuffs.
Physical Requirements
- Remain on your feet or walk continuously (potentially for an entire shift) on different surfaces.
- Occasionally ascend stairs, ramps, or ladders throughout the shift.
- Possess a good knowledge and expertise in all aspects of security/fire emergency procedures, all hospital emergency procedures.
- Periodically bend or twist at the waist, knees, or neck to complete various tasks.Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds.
- Work in various conditions, including outdoor environments with extreme weather such as cold, snow, rain, or heat.
- Running may be required.
Additional Requirements
Must sign an attestation for the following vaccinations:
- Mantoux test (tuberculosis)
- Measles/ rubella (proof of vaccination or serology)
- Measles/ mumps (proof of vaccination or serology)
- German measles or rubella (proof of vaccination or serology)
- Chicken pox varicelle (proof of vaccination or serology)
- COVID vaccinations – 1 shot is mandatory.
- Highly recommended (but not required): Hepatitis B – flu vaccination.
