Overview
The Security Officer will provide front line security support (static and mobile) to the Saskatoon building, often being the first point of contact for residents, Mustard Seed staff and visitors. This position is fast-paced and the incumbent must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a professional approach. Primary duties include monitoring building access through encoded key FOBs and overseeing activities within and around the property via CCTV surveillance. Liaising with client support staff, managing phone calls, and conducting security patrols within and around The Mustard Seed properties are important to optimize safety, service and a sense of community.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise building access
- Provide a visible and attentive security presence on the main floor of the building, complete nightly surveillance, observe and respond to opportunities that optimize safety and build community
- Monitor resident, staff and visitor activities within and around the properties and parking lot; provide support and crisis intervention as required
- Assess clients' level of intoxication, risk factors, immediate needs and vulnerabilities; inform supervisor of any concerns
- Proactively communicate and collaborate with all client support staff
- Inspect buildings, equipment and access points; permit entry. Obtain help by sounding alarms. Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities and informing violators of policy and procedures
- Conduct security patrols, baggage check, complete logs and prepare reports as required
- Keep all client information confidential
- Provide prompt assistance in emergencies, including but not limited to overdose situations
- Complete shift report entries in Information Log and prepare necessary incident reports, ensuring accurate and timely reporting as required
- Collaborate with various departments and engage with community resources as needed
- Complete required training, including but not limited to FOIP, First Aid and CPR, Naloxone, NVCI and De-escalation certification; attend meetings
- Maintain professionalism and adhere to all policies and procedures including Health & Safety and HR policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
- Post-secondary education in a related field preferred
- Valid Saskatchewan Security Guard license
- Front-line experience in working with vulnerable populations
- Experience with crisis intervention and problem solving is an asset
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Strong relationship building and communication skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications
- Experience or willingness to gain experience using CCTV security systems
- NVCI and De-escalation certification
- Cultural sensitivity and respect for client individuality and self-determination
- Knowledge or experience with Indigenous communities is an asset
- Self-starter with ability to work in a cross-functional team
Working Conditions
- Training and uniform will be provided for this position
- May be required to work a variety of shifts including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
- Working inside and outside in various climates; moderate physical effort including standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Kevlar vests and steel-toed shoes are required; protective footwear must be worn at all times
- May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases and conditions
- Focused mental effort in a fast-paced environment, operating a CCTV system, and using two-way radio communications to respond to crises
- Employees should be aware that some clients may exhibit challenging or unstable behavior; training provided on how to respond but such behavior may occur
- Complete required training to be fully equipped to work with guests and clients; learn de-escalation techniques while remaining calm and professional
- Frequent manual labor, conflict resolution and organizational work
- A clear Driver's Abstract is required prior to offer of employment
- Participate in all staff training and attend monthly meetings with supervisor
