Sales Engineer - HVAC District Energy & Tech

The primary focus of the Sales Engineer - HVAC District Energy & Tech will fulfill the role of a responsive and trusted advisor for heat transfer solutions for Alfa Laval’s Local Key Customers system builders, contractors and Consulting Engineers in HVAC District Energy, Data centre cooling, semi‑conductor and Light Industry applications in Canada. Ensure Alfa Laval is the specified supplier on the tender, RFQ documents/inquiries.

Key tasks will include
  • Provide a prompt and accurate service response to consulting engineers and key accounts in HVAC District Energy, Data Centre Cooling, semi‑conductor and Light Industrial applications who wish to have configurations/offers made for them.

  • Prospect for and manage leads from the market and potential customers to identify new customers and business opportunities as the local presence in the assigned industry areas and convert leads into real business opportunities in order to ensure a sustainable and growing business.

  • Be active in the market and interact frequently with customers online and in real life to build strong relationships as a trusted advisor and provide excellent customer experience.

  • Review requests, prepare configurations and offers using Alfa Laval’s in‑house computer applications. Includes revisions thereof and taking in‑depth discussions on various options and the advantages and disadvantages for each.

  • Act as a trusted advisor for Alfa Laval’s direct‑buying Key Accounts, consultants, contractors and business partners.

  • Assist in the implementation of Alfa Laval’s online customer aid tools that can assist individuals in the above customer base who wish to be able to work independently (e.g. Partner portal, Anytime PHE, Select BIM Object files and others).

  • Promote the real‑life benefits of Alfa Laval’s branded features for Gasketed Plate Heat Exchangers and Brazed and Bonded Heat Exchangers and industry standards that Alfa Laval is a member of (e.g. AHRI 400) in the target industry segments to ensure that Alfa Laval is the specified and preferred heat‑exchanger supplier on the contractor/customer tender documents.

  • Assist the other members of the Energy Equipment HEX team in a supporting or backup role as needed.

  • Providing required technical support when requested during claims and field service issues including site visits.

  • Meet ISO 9001 and HSE requirements and maintain tidy/clean work area.

  • Any other work assigned by your manager to support the activities and grow the business for the department.

Education, experience and certification/registration desired
Education (degree or years) and/or Certification/Registration
  • Engineering Degree or Engineering Technologist diploma. Preference (though not mandatory) for Mechanical or Chemical disciplines / competencies.
Type and Length of Experience
  • 5‑10 years post‑education.
Knowledge, skills, abilities and attributes desired in candidate
  • Insight / experience into the HVAC District Energy Data Center Utility industries. Completion of ASHRAE courses are valued.
  • Communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer products in an HVAC/Utility environment and their interaction with other equipment.
Other requirements (i.e. travel, motor vehicle use, etc.)
  • Occasional travel up to 10% (primarily on customer requests) locally and within Canada.
  • Preferred to have a valid driver’s licence in home province (car/passenger vehicle only) and the ability to travel by airplane.
