  • Reports To : Senior Executive Officer (SEO) of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government
  • Location & Working Conditions : Edmonton head-office with regular travel to regional offices and Métis communities. Occasional evening and weekend commitments required.

The Opportunity – Why This Role Matters

The Director, Education and Training is the most senior leadership role within Rupertsland Institute. It provides an unparalleled opportunity to lead strategic and operational execution across all departments and contribute directly to the long-term prosperity of Métis citizens. Reporting directly to the Senior Executive Officer (SEO) of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, the Director ensures the effective delivery of education, training, and employment programs and services aligned with government priorities and funding agreements.

As the Director, your leadership and expertise will be instrumental in overseeing a province-wide service delivery model, multi-million-dollar program budgets, and a leadership team responsible for client and student services, early learning and childcare, K-12 education, and internal operations. Your voice will be heard as you lead the direction of education and training to make a tangible difference in the lives of Métis citizens.

To Fit the Role

Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do

  • Strategic and Executive Leadership
  • Lead the strategic direction and execution of RLI’s education, training, and employment initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment with the Otipemisiwak Métis Government policy priorities and goals.
  • Promote innovation and excellence in culturally grounded, community-driven programming.

Government Relations and Accountability

  • Serve as RLI’s primary liaison with the OMG Senior Executive Officer and relevant government departments.
  • Implement and report on strategic and operational plans that reflect government direction and funding commitments.
  • Provide regular updates, outcome tracking, and risk analysis to OMG.

Organizational and Executive Oversight

  • Provide executive supervision to three Associate Directors leading : Client and Student Services K-12 and Early Learning Initiatives Internal Operations
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative workplace aligned with Métis values.

Program and Service Management

  • Ensure the effective design, delivery, and evaluation of RLI programs, including : Early childhood development K-12 engagement Post-secondary funding and student support Skills development and employment services
  • Maintain high service quality and accountability across all locations.

Financial and Risk Oversight

  • Manage annual budgets totaling millions from federal and provincial funders.
  • Ensure compliance, audit readiness, financial forecasting, and responsible resource allocation.
  • Support the development of operational work plans and performance benchmarks.

Stakeholder and Sector Engagement

  • Represent RLI and OMG in high-level sectoral, community, and intergovernmental forums.
  • Promote collaborative ventures and joint initiatives that enhance services for Métis citizens.

Compliance, Legal and Data Governance

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, funding agreements, and data privacy regulations.
  • Oversee data governance practices that honour Métis data sovereignty.
  • Align administrative functions and reporting with OMG governance standards.

Qualifications – Your Passion, Experience & Expertise

Education & Certification

Graduate degree in Public Administration, Education Administration, Indigenous Governance, Management, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • 10+ years in senior leadership, with demonstrated success managing complex operations, large budgets, and strategic planning.
  • Deep experience in Indigenous governance or service delivery settings.
  • Proven success in high-level partnership development, funding negotiation, and organizational transformation.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of Métis culture, governance, and community priorities.
  • Exceptional leadership, financial, and project management abilities.
  • High political acumen, strategic thinking, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous education systems, workforce development, and labour market trends.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated capacity to actively listen and genuinely understand the diverse perspectives and needs of colleagues, partners, and community.
