Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) engages with pet parents and their pets, providing positive experiences while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility for store cleanliness, maintenance, pet safety standards, and the direct care of pets within our store.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Enhancing the pet parent experience in person, over the phone, at the register, and online.
2. Greeting pet parents and answering their questions throughout the store.
3. Preparing online orders for in-store pickup and ensuring a smooth experience.
4. Providing healthcare for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
5. Maintaining store cleanliness standards.
6. Supporting weekly price changes and promotional pricing.
7. Staging and sorting new products to match sales floor plans.
8. Filling, facing, and recovering products on the sales floor.
9. Recommending, informing, and selling merchandise, services, and live pets.
10. Administering store-owned pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
11. Promoting events like adoption weekends, Treats enrollment, and charity events.
12. Ensuring a safe environment for staff, pets, and customers.
13. Taking immediate action if a sick or injured pet is identified, including transport to a vet.
14. Assisting in various store areas as needed.
15. Participating in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
16. Following all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Standing, walking, climbing ladders, and handling objects. Reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, and hearing are frequent.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and more than 100 pounds with assistance occasionally.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and moderate noise levels. Handling live animals is common.
