This is an online teaching position that requires the candidate to provide virtual instruction, assessment, and evaluation to secondary school students learning from home, as needed by the system.

Job Details

This is a regional online position within the Caring and Safe Schools Department. The successful candidate will support students enrolled in the regional online Alternative Classroom and Counselling for Expelled and Suspended Students (ACCESS) program. This delivery is designed to support secondary school students who are learning from home. The online ACCESS teacher supports students with their academic program by delivering a variety of credit courses and course types from Grade 9 to Grade 12, in a structured and supportive online environment. The online instruction will be delivered from one of our ACCESS school sites.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitating course registration and access in an online learning environment
  • Managing all aspects of planning, instruction, assessment and communication, including designing and implementing course content that addresses individual learning needs and evaluating curriculum expectations
  • Providing individualized programming and support, including Special Education accommodations, as required
  • Assessing student work according to Growing Success and Ministry of Education achievement charts
  • Collecting and reporting of student achievement data
  • Communicating with parents/guardians, as needed
  • Utilizing e-learning tools (e.g., D2L, Adobe Connect, Google Classroom) to deliver curriculum content
  • Maintaining attendance records
  • Applying the principles of equity and inclusivity
  • Maintaining a safe and inclusive online learning environment
  • Attending planning meetings as needed
  • Making referrals for additional Board and community supports as appropriate
  • Managing other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Have permanent contract teaching experience in a variety of secondary teaching assignments
  • Intermediate/Senior Qualifications
  • Experience with a variety of curricula
  • Special Education qualifications desired
  • Experience providing virtual learning is desired
Additional Information

Candidates must be members in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) or in the process of becoming OCT qualified before the start date. If you are external to the YRDSB, you will be prompted to provide at least three professional supervisory teaching references in the job posting online application. We do not contact references before the interview. If you are an internal YRDSB employee, include all previous teaching experiences and two references, one of which must be a YRDSB administrator. A current original Police Vulnerable Sector Check or Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) via Sterling Backcheck is required prior to employment; checks must be issued within the last six months. Candidates are not advised to obtain this document before an offer of employment.

Examples of referees could include: Principal/VP, Faculty Advisor/Practitioner, Host/Mentor Teacher, and other professional references who can speak to teaching practice.
