Job description
Overview

Term of Appointment: Up to a maximum of 10-hour shifts, relief on call.

Start date: To be determined, as needed.

Reporting to: Manager of Facilities Services.

Salary

Salary: Classification 9, $27.35 - $28.19 per hour, as per the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Security personnel are also paid $0.65/hr for evening shift differential and an additional weekend stipend for shifts that are applicable. Temporary employees also receive an additional $0.58/hr in lieu of benefits, as well as 6% vacation pay paid out with each pay.

Description

This is a relief on call position covering the following shifts:

  • Evening shift from 3:30 pm - 2:30 am (10 hour shift) on a rotating 4 on / 4 off schedule; and/or
  • Day shift from 7:00 am - 3:00 pm (7 hour shift) with shifts occurring Monday to Friday.

The primary function of this position is to provide access to authorized users of college facilities and to keep property secure. As a member of the facilities team this position is required to perform minor maintenance tasks as assigned during their shift. The position monitors activity, patrols campus, provides information, direction, and security to the public using tact and diplomacy. This position is required to operate machinery and equipment related to the duties, disperses mail/packages throughout campus and completes errands.

The Campus Security/Maintenance is required to effectively manage and resolve conflict utilizing excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A supportive attitude to students and the public, and a firm commitment to fostering a student-centered environment is expected.

Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 with formal security training (i.e., Justice Institute), a current Level 1 Occupational First Aid certification and previous experience is required. This position requires a valid Class 5 driver's license. Individuals must be able to work with minimal supervision and be capable of lifting 50lbs (23 kilograms). Preference will be given to those who have general maintenance experience. Front end loader experience is preferred (snow removal in winter months).
