Overview

SOAHAC is a diverse, dynamic, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency. We strive to provide quality, wholistic health services by sharing and promoting traditional and western health practices. We are seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to join our interdisciplinary staff team at the Newbury site.

The position: Full-time Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in Newbury, ON. Status: Full-time, permanent. Hours: 35 hours/week (Monday to Friday). Salary: $51,078 to $63,847. Paid Time Off: 3 weeks vacation, 12 health and 3 personal days, 5 spiritual/cultural days, professional development and your birthday off. Responsibilities
  • Assist with direct client care procedures and related tasks such as checks in clients, obtaining history, vital signs, updating and preparing charts, screening for preventative care, and assisting with medical examination or minor procedures
  • Conduct intake appointments with new SOAHAC clients ensuring a holistic process
  • Advocate on behalf of the client regarding equitable access to traditional healing and western health services as directed by the client
  • Perform specialized procedures, such as obtaining and processing lab specimens
  • Maintain database/registry of client eligibility and due for cancer screening, diabetes care, and immunizations using EMR reports; be familiar with Canadian Diabetes Association guidelines, Cancer Care Ontario screening guidelines, and the publicly funded immunization schedule for Ontario
  • Receive telephone calls from clients at nursing station/office, triage concerns, and take appropriate action (provide telephone support, book with a provider, or expedite to a provider)
  • Contact clients by telephone to discuss results as needed and arrange appropriate follow up, as directed by the Physician/Nurse Practitioner
  • Review, maintain, and order immunizations and medical supplies on a weekly basis or as needed
  • Commit to continuous professional development and continuing education
  • Work self-directed with minimal supervision; demonstrate a recent satisfactory attendance and performance record
  • Advocate and support a culture of client safety and understand how the department service contributes to overall client safety at SOAHAC
  • Routinely participate in staff meetings
