Role Overview

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager – as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, the RPN uses the nursing process to provide care to a patient or group of patients as assigned. 8 hour shifts, Monday through Sunday (days, evenings, nights, weekends).

Responsibilities

Responsibilities are aligned with the role of a Registered Practical Nurse in an acute care setting and include providing nursing care to patients, following the nursing process, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Currently registered with the College of Nurses
• Current BCLS
• Current Coronary Care Course 1 or completion within 6 months
• Able to perform added nursing skills as required
• Previous experience in a medical/surgical unit an asset
• Follows safe and healthy work practices and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established reporting mechanisms for injuries, illness and hazards and adherence to health and safety related policies and procedures

• Physical ability to lift, pull, push, carry, reach and physically support patients
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time with repetitive bending
• Ability to focus on complex instructions and tasks in an active, rapidly changing environment

Employment Requirements

Successful applicants are required to provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, completed within the past year, to be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment. Additionally, successful applicants are required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process, including providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
