The Registered Nurse (RN) works under the direction of the Director of Care (DOC) to co‑coordinate the delivery of quality, resident‑centered care on assigned Resident Home Areas. The RN is a clinical nursing expert, nursing team member and educator for residents and members of the nursing care team. The RN supports the efficient operation of the Home through continuous quality improvement. Duties are fulfilled in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values of Providence Care Centre and the professional requirements and practice standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Long‑Term Care Act.

Skills and Qualifications Required
  • Unrestricted registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum educational requirement is an RN diploma; BScN.
  • Current CPR and First‑Aid certification required
  • Certification in gerontological nursing preferred, as is training in Gentle Persuasive Approach and similar programs.
  • Prior work experience and training in dementia care and palliative care preferred
  • Prior work or practicum experience in a Long‑term care Home.
Position Responsibilities
  • Oversees the work of Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and reports any performance concerns to the Director of Care or designate.
  • Acts as a resource to registered and unregistered staff in the performance of their duties.
  • Provides leadership in the promotion of resident‑centered care in the Home.
  • Promotes Resident's Bill of Rights and advocates for residents
  • Communicates regularly with residents, family members, POAs and members of the resident's inter‑professional care team.
  • Supports a caring environment, promotes resident and family involvement in care planning
  • Works with the inter‑professional team in the development and revision of care plans for residents.
  • Ensures the daily personal needs of residents are met with careful regard to the dignity of the resident, in accordance with the Residents' Bill of Rights.
  • Provides front‑line clinical nursing expertise in all aspects of care delivery on the assigned Resident Home Areas.
