Position Summary

Do you have a passion for nursing? We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at GR Baker Memorial Hospital. The Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and provides direct patient care to persons with addictions, psychiatric illness, and/or challenging behaviours through comprehensive assessment, intervention planning, monitoring, individual and group therapy, consultation and intervention.

Shift Rotation / Hours of Work

Days, Nights – 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00, Rotating.

GR Baker Memorial Hospital is a full‑care hospital with 27 acute‑care beds, 4 ICU beds and 5 crisis stabilization beds. Services provided include:

  • Full Emergency Medical Care

Qualifications
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN or RPN registrant.
  • Minimum of one (1) year recent experience in an acute mental health setting or an equivalent of experience in other areas of the mental health field.

  • Ability to apply clinical and critical thinking.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the health care team and clients/families.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other care providers to facilitate inter‑agency and interdepartmental problem solving.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively, including establishing and maintaining rapport with psychotic and crisis‑prone individuals.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mental health and addictions assessment, psychopharmacology, general counselling principles & interview techniques, crisis theory, de‑escalation techniques, seclusion and restraint practices, violence management protocols, community resource & social service utilization and Mental Health Act provisions.
  • Physical ability to perform duties of position.
  • Ability to provide and promote safe and competent patient care.
  • Ability to recognize and intervene appropriately in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to use an electronic file system for service delivery.
  • Ability to proactively and effectively resolve issues impacting on quality and continuity of care.
  • Ability to organize work, and set and adjust priorities in relation to identified risk factors.
