Join the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) as a Community Mental Health Nurse and make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents across Inuvik and the Beaufort Delta Region. In this role, you will provide comprehensive, community-based mental health and substance use services, including case management, medication support, crisis intervention, mental health assessments, and individualized care planning. By collaborating with primary care teams, hospital services, the Opioid Recovery Program, and partner organizations, the nurse ensures clients receive coordinated, accessible, culturally safe, and evidence-based care that aligns with NTHSSA standards. This work supports clients in maintaining stability within their communities, reducing hospitalization, and promoting self-care and independence.

This dynamic position also offers opportunities to provide consultation to fellow healthcare professionals, contribute to program development, and educate clients and families. You will play a key role in supporting interdisciplinary teams, maintaining high standards of ethical, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented care, and promoting health and wellness throughout the Beaufort Delta Region. Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Psychiatric Nursing/Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BN or BScN) is required.
  • Completion of a post‑graduate psychiatric nursing program, or additional mental health training from a recognized university or employer is an asset.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working directly or indirectly with moderate exposure with a Mental Health or Psychiatry population is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Labour Market Supplement

The successful incumbent will receive a $11,000 supplement upon hire and an additional $11,000 supplement after completion of 12 months of continuous employment contingent on remaining employed in an eligible position for a further 12 months. This is a taxable benefit and will be subject to applicable deductions.

Candidates must clearly identify their eligibility in order to receive priority consideration under the Indigenous Employment Policy.

Immunization Status

The successful candidate will be required to obtain proof of current up-to-date immunization status.

Registrations
