Qualifications

  • A college diploma in leisure services is an asset.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Highly organized and able to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must enjoy working with the elderly.

The Recreation Aide reports to the Program Manager and is expected to demonstrate commitment to resident well-being by implementing high-quality activities in accordance with the organization's vision and mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Program Manager in the planning and implementation of recreation activities designed to meet individual needs and interests according to established standards.
  • Know how to demonstrate evidence of increasing individual’s well-being and reducing ill-being.
  • Create an enjoyable, relaxed, and entertaining environment in the residence and assume responsibility for the morale and well-being of residents.
  • Organize supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Set up program area as needed.
  • Keep attendance and document Resident participation in activities.
  • Encourage Residents to attend programs.
  • Assist Residents to and from programs.
  • Meet an individual’s physical and personal care needs to a high-quality standard and with sensitivity.
  • Partner with community team to ensure the community is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and/or policies; adherence to safety.
  • Any and all other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:

  • A college diploma in leisure services is an asset, or a degree/diploma in gerontology is an asset
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English
  • Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting is an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid
  • Highly organized and able to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must enjoy working with the elderly in a setting that promotes optimum independence, dignity, and respect
  • Ability to use your imagination to engage others
  • Must have high energy and a sense of fun
  • Ability to have meaningful engagements with others
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (within last 6 months), recent TB test results (within last 6 months) or Chest X-ray (within last 1 yr), and two supervisory references required
