PUBLIC LEGAL EDUCATION & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR
Thunder Bay, ON

The Public Legal Education and Communications Coordinator (PLECO) is responsible for delivering on NALSC’s mandate to offer PLE to NAN communities through workshops and presentations, community visits, career fairs, clinic days, promotions and booth displays, newsletters and website information, and radio shows. The PLECO works under the Director of Legal Services and Legal Aid Administrator and all aspects and programs of NALSC. The PLECO will also assist the Director of Legal Services, Legal Aid Administrator and NALSC with administrative duties including procurement, research, record-keeping and more.

Qualifications:
  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture including an understanding of the history and justice related issues
  • Knowledge of NALSC programs
  • Ability to work co-operatively and constructively as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels of government, other legal professions and the general public
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and its components
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and Outlook) or equivalent applications
  • Experience working with NAN and in First Nation Communities
  • Excellent case and file management skills, administrative and coordination skills, stress management and time management skills, ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to speak Cree, Oji-Cree, or Ojibway an asset.
