About Rodan Energy
Rodan Energy is a North American leader in energy intelligence and distributed energy resources, enabling a more reliable, cost-effective, and decarbonized grid. We partner with large energy users, utilities, and grid operators to design, finance, and operate high-impact DER solutions.
About the Role
Make the grid smarter, cleaner, and more resilient - one transaction at a time.
At Rodan Energy, we develop, finance, and operate distributed energy resources (DERs) -including battery storage, solar, CHP, and advanced demand response portfolios across North America. We’re building a high-performing team at the intersection of energy infrastructure and capital markets.
We’re seeking an Investment Banking Associate (3-5 years) with experience at a major Canadian, U.S. or European investment bank to drive project finance, M&A, and capital formation for our DER platform. You’ll lead complex financial models, produce investor-grade materials (decks, CIMs, data rooms), manage full transaction lifecycles, and help structure bankable, scalable energy investments.
Reporting directly to the President, Rodan DER, this is a high-visibility, hands-on role partnering with senior leadership across Development, Markets, Legal, and Finance.
What You’ll Do
- Deal Origination & Execution: Run full transaction processes (financing and M&A) from mandate/business case through IC memo, term sheet, due diligence, documentation, and closing.
- Financial Modeling & Valuation: Own project finance models and portfolio models for DER assets (battery storage, solar, CHP, microgrids, DR portfolios), including revenue stacking (energy/capacity/ancillary), curtailment, degradation, merchant vs. contracted scenarios, and capital structure optimization.
- Investor Engagement & Capital Formation: Identify and map investor universes (infrastructure funds, strategics, pension funds, banks, tax equity where applicable) and support outreach pipelines.
- Stakeholder & Relationship Management: Develop trusted relationships with clients, investors, lenders, advisors, counterparties, and internal stakeholders.
- Strategy & Insights: Track market pricing, policy changes, and incentives across IESO/PJM/NYISO/MISO/AESO; synthesize implications for underwriting and portfolio allocation.
What You Bring
- 3-5 years in Investment Banking (bulge bracket, major Canadian/US/European bank, or elite boutique) with energy infrastructure/project finance exposure.
- Closed-deal experience across financings and/or M&A, with demonstrated process leadership from mandate to close.
- Advanced modeling: project finance waterfalls, debt sizing (DSCR/LLCR/PLCR), tax/rate cases, downside cases, covenants, and portfolio modeling for investor presentations.
- Outstanding presentation & writing: investment decks, CIMs, data rooms, diligence questionnaires, and IC memos.
- Investor-facing fluency: identifying the right buyers/lenders, managing pipelines, and converting interest to binding commitments.
- Strong relationship-building skills with the credibility to engage senior investors and partners.
- Familiarity with North American power markets (IESO, PJM, NYISO, MISO, AESO), capacity/RA, and ancillary services revenue.
Success in 12 Months Looks Like
- 2-4 completed transactions (financing or M&A) or binding term sheets on priority projects/portfolios.
- Production-grade project & portfolio models adopted as the internal standard.
- A qualified investor pipeline with trackable engagement, strong NDAs signed, and repeat follow-ups.
- A robust library of investor materials (CIMs, decks, case studies) and a clean, auditable data room structure.
- Cross-functional praise for clear communication, on-time deliverables, and collaborative execution.
Location & Work Model
- GTA (Hybrid) preferred; open to North American candidates in major markets for exceptional profiles.
- Travel ~10–20% for investor meetings, diligence, and site visits.
