Leading infrastructure contractor is seeking a Project Director to join their Major Projects team across Canada with a focus on rail projects in Vancouver BC, Toronto ON, and Calgary AB. Reporting to the Vice President, the Project Director will be responsible for the operational and financial performance of major rail projects. Key Responsibilities of Project Director
- Key member of a multidisciplinary team that develops, designs, constructs, and maintains major railway schemes. Participate as a key member of a pursuit team to secure major project awards.
- Responsible for the safe and profitable performance of signalization and rail electrification construction projects.
- Approve all expenditures and proposal pricing within limits of authority.
- Develop project execution plans and schedules for ongoing management of performance.
- Provide technical guidance in rail operations, contract management, standards, procedures, and direction in project execution and construction activities.
- Resolve project-related disputes with clients, partners, subcontractors, and the public.
- Report issues to the SVP Utilities and the project executive regarding financial performance, workload status, legal issues, and opportunities.
- Establish a management team with clearly defined responsibilities covering all aspects of the operation.
- Prepare staff development and succession plans for key positions.
- Maintain positive relationships with major clients, partners, and unions.
- Ensure all project activities align with corporate and divisional strategies, policies, and procedures.
Required Knowledge and Skills of Project Director
- Engineering degree or Technical Diploma/equivalent training and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of construction experience with rail-related projects.
- Knowledge in all three elements of the Electrification and Plant (E&P) discipline including Overhead Line Equipment (OLE), 25kV Power Distribution, and Low Voltage Electrical systems.
- Ability to evaluate employees and deploy field resources on projects of various sizes and complexities.
- Experience establishing effective project controls to track productivity and ensure adherence to estimates and bids.
- Project management expertise on complex joint venture or P3 projects.
- Strong communication skills to maintain effective relationships with officials, boards, subordinates, peers, and the public.
- Proven leadership and sound business judgment.
- Ability to plan, review, assign, and evaluate subordinate managers' work.
