Purpose

The candidate will play a key role in supporting and driving process improvements at the client site. This Secondment position is 100% on-site and requires a highly motivated individual who can apply engineering expertise to optimize refinery operations, enhance process safety, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate must possess their PEng or be eligible for it within the next 6 months. Self‑motivated individuals with a desire to solve complex engineering problems, demonstrate effective team leadership, and showcase strong communication skills will be ideally suited for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Champion Journey to Zero safety culture by actively supporting safety initiatives.
  • Engage in all technical aspects of Process Engineering work such as the development of process design criteria, preparation of engineering calculations, analyses, and studies, development of process simulations, PFDs and H&MBs, P&IDs, LDTs, equipment sizing and specifications, hydraulic analysis and report writing.
  • Perform engineering calculations and simulations to analyze and improve process equipment performance.
  • Oversee or participate in reviews of new projects or proposed changes to refinery equipment and procedures.
  • Develop scoping studies and design basis memorandums, ensuring recommendations align with applicable engineering standards.
  • Assess and calculate the economic feasibility of capital project options.
  • Lead or contribute to hazard reviews for capital projects to ensure process safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to operations for specialized activities.
  • Collaborate with operations teams on key activities such as catalyst changes, ensuring seamless coordination and execution.
  • Mentor and facilitate mentorship of junior engineers, CAD designers and drafters.
  • Participate in and facilitate external and internal department training activities.
What you will Bring
Technical and Industry Experience
  • Provide technical information and support to maintain or improve terminal and regional CFT operational performance (e.g. technical specifications, operating guidelines, equipment specifications, safe operating limits, technical envelopes).
  • Provide discipline leadership for all process engineering system changes through the MOC process.
  • Experience leading expense and small capital projects that are primarily process engineering focused.
  • Review and update installation drawings, datasheets, loop drawings, purchase specifications and guidance documents.
  • Strong understanding of refinery processes, with the ability to assess and recommend process safety improvements.
  • Ability and knowledge to ensure we are in compliance with environmental and regulatory standards for plant equipment and infrastructure.
  • Provide process engineering discipline expertise in support of major projects executed across the Distribution network, as required.
  • Proven ability to analyze, define, and solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Experience applying engineering principles to optimize operations and drive process improvements.
  • Ability to adapt and apply information technology to enhance process efficiency.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and relationship‑building skills.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent education.
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation, or now eligible for.
  • Experience in Refining or a related field is a must.
  • The ability to work 100% on‑site, with no hybrid work schedule available.
