Position Summary is primarily responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the treating system – this includes completing a process that combines a number of tasks (automated, computer controlled, mechanical and physical) and other duties as assigned. The Power Engineer will also work in conjunction with Management on tasks involving training, setup of new tasks, special projects and the monitoring of completed work within (but not limited to) their area of operations to ensure that production goals are being met and standards are being adhered to. The Power Engineer is expected to help direct the workforce within (but not limited to) their area of operation in accordance with direction from Management. The Treating Operator Team Lead is expected to lead by example in a positive manner and promote the company values.
MUST HAVE: 3rd Class Operating Engineer Certification
Responsibilities
- Work in compliance with all company rules and regulations
- Follow all company Health & Safety policies and SOPs
- Wear all PPE required and work in a safe manner
- Participate in all company mandated training in good faith
- Come to work prepared (both mentally and materially) to work in a variety of environments
- Complete first aid training and any refresher training required
- Complete forklift training and any refreshers training required
- Train employees how to operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner ensuring that all training mirrors the SOPs
- Possess excellent knowledge of the treating department and understanding of the treating process
- Possess excellent knowledge of the water treatments systems and processes
- Operate and monitor water treatment systems, ensuring the safe and efficient treatment of water to meet quality and regulatory standards
- Perform routine maintenance, including inspections, calibrations, and repairs of water treatment equipment
- Conduct regular water quality testing and analysis, adjusting treatment processes as needed to ensure water quality
- Respond to system alarms and emergencies, taking appropriate corrective actions to mitigate risks
- Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Ensure products manufactured are of the required quality
- Ensure employees are performing jobs to the expected quality and quantity
- Maintain accurate records and reports
- Follow and understand daily production schedules
- Knowledge of the chemicals being used and first aid measures when contact is made with any chemicals
- Label parts & products clearly and accurately
- Complete appropriate forms legibly and clearly
- Work cooperatively with a team to achieve production targets
- Maintain good housekeeping in all assigned areas
- Abide by OHSA (Occupational Health and Safety Act) workplace health and safety standards
- Report all Health & Safety issues immediately
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 3rd Class Operating Engineer Certification, must have
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a similar role, with experience in water treatment systems preferred
- Valid driver’s license
- Clean driver’s abstract
- Forklift License, an asset
- Working at heights, an asset
- Proficiency in English, read, written and spoken
- Stand for significant periods of time (7 hours or more)
- Be able to lift 50lbs unassisted
- Good manual dexterity, hand eye co-ordination
- Attention to detail
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good computer knowledge and experience
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, pressure vessels, filtration systems, and boilers
- Basic math skills
Ability
- Quickly diagnose mechanical, electrical, and operational issues in pressure and water treatment systems, implementing solutions to minimize downtime
- Meticulous in monitoring system parameters, performing routine tests, and keeping accurate records to ensure all systems function within regulated limits
- Strong focus on safety, adhering strictly to protocols and ensuring zero tolerance for operational risks
- Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos & schedules
- Write simple correspondence
- Work independently and be flexible regarding work assignments
