A leading research group at the University is seeking a candidate to lead the development of the ATLAS Inner Tracker DAQ. Responsibilities include software development for detector-specific systems and commissioning computing infrastructure. Ideal applicants hold a PhD and possess experience in particle detector design and data acquisition. This full-time position is based in Victoria, Canada, with salary based on experience. Applications are being reviewed starting January 19th, 2026.
The ATLAS group at Victoria consists of about thirty scientists including seven faculty members – Justin Albert, Richard Keeler, Michel Lefebvre, Rob McPherson, Heather Russell, Randall Sobie, and Dominique Trischuk – making significant contributions to ATLAS liquid argon calorimetry, muon spectrometer, trigger, computing, analysis tool development, and physics analysis. The group is also active in upgrades of ATLAS Inner Tracker, liquid argon calorimeter electronics and the new small wheels for the muon end‑caps.
In addition to the analysis of ATLAS collision data, the successful candidate will be expected to take a leading role in the development of the ATLAS Inner Tracker (ITk) DAQ. The candidate will be responsible for assembly of detector control and environmental monitoring systems, commissioning of the computing infrastructure and the development of detector‑specific software for a local DAQ test stand at the University of Victoria. This software development will support the integration and commissioning effort of ITk.
The candidate should have completed a PhD by the time of the appointment. Experience in particle detector design, construction, readout electronics, data‑acquisition, computing and data analysis would be useful for the position. The position will be based in Victoria, Canada. The starting date will be negotiated with the successful candidate, and the salary will be based on experience. The position will be full time.
Candidates should send a CV, a cover letter, and arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation sent to:
