About this opportunity

Reporting to the Plant or Field Coordinator, the Plant Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of processing equipment or field well pads as required to achieve maximum throughput through the facility while actively adhering to the Cenovus policies, safety, operating rules, schedule agreements, attendance guidelines, and Government regulations.

While this vacancy is currently at Christina Lake/Christina Lake North, this posting could be used to fill vacancies at any of the three Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Foster Creek, or Sunrise, based on business need).

Work Environment

• This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation.
• Foster Creek and Christina Lake has full-service camp facilities.
• Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations.
• Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB.

What you’ll do

• Perform condition monitoring including sampling and testing per area responsibilities, documented and act on results.
• Conduct operational rounds including electronic Log entry of operator actions taken during the shift.
• Provide assistance, coaching, on-the-job training and assessments to new employees as required.
• Support maintenance schedule by preparing equipment for planned work applying the LOTO procedure.
• Perform walkarounds, participate informal LOTO and HSE safety audits.
• Implement housekeeping activities, document, and take corrective action as required.
• Conduct handover meeting with outgoing/incoming area Plant Operator.

Who you are

• Legally authorized to work in Canada
• Possess a 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate, with preference given to those holding a 3rd or 2nd Class Certificate.
• Minimum 4 years of Operating experience.
• Relevant experience in cyclic steam or SAGD thermal recovery heavy oil operations would be an asset.
• Proficiency with computers is required (experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, SAP, and a field data capture system would be considered an asset).
• Strong technical skills to complement Power Engineering qualifications.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver’s abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
