Job Summary

Working with the pharmacy team and under the direct supervision of staff pharmacists and clinical pharmacists, the successful candidate will measure, compound, package and distribute drugs and medications for CancerCare Manitoba patients. The majority of medications prepared will be intravenous admixtures requiring knowledge and skill in aseptic technique. The successful candidate will also ensure that record keeping is performed, and maintain adequate drug inventory. As well, you will be asked to perform related duties such as computer order entry, answering telephones, filing, and placing drug purchase orders for the I.V. admixture services and oral drugs at CancerCare Manitoba. Note: Pharmacy Assistants work with hazardous materials. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and training are provided. Primary working hours are Monday to Friday day shifts along with intermittent day shifts on weekends.

Qualifications

Required

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent (Manitoba standards)
  • Completion of a recognized Pharmacy Technician course
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Accuracy and attentive to details
  • Basic computer skills – keyboarding, data entry, email and internet use
  • Physical and mental health to fulfill the responsibilities of the position
  • Satisfactory employment record
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada

Preferred

  • Previous work experience with anti-cancer oral medications
  • Previous work experience with IV admixtures in a hospital setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel
  • Experience with general office procedures

Asset

  • Ability to speak French
