We are currently looking for a Personal Support Worker interested in a full-time or part-time position in the Aurora area.

Job Description: Are you a compassionate and dedicated PSW passionate about providing quality care? We are seeking Personal Support Workers to join our team at a Long-Term Care facility that primarily serves the Chinese community.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal / communication skills
  • Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and Gentle Persuasion Approaches to Dementia Care (GPA) are assets

  • High interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required (dated within 6 months of employment start date). TB testing is required. Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Follow all Health Sciences North policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Follow the designated care plan, observe and report changes in patient/resident behavior to the appropriate registered healthcare team member
  • Work under the supervision of a Registered Healthcare Professional such as an RN or an RPN
  • Perform delegated tasks only if trained to perform them
  • Observe and report changes in residents/tenants; document changes per facility policy while maintaining confidentiality
  • Assess health status by recognizing signs and symptoms and report to Nursing Supervisor or Administrator as necessary
  • Provide supportive care in accordance with established policies and physician orders
  • Work as part of a team with facility personnel
  • Assist in meeting physical, emotional and psychological needs of residents as directed
  • Participate in staff development, safety, quality assurance, environmental and infection control programs
  • Deal courteously and respectfully with staff, residents/tenants, families and visitors
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly duties as per policy
  • Serve in the dining room at mealtimes as necessary
  • Participate in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures
  • Complete documentation as per facility policies and guidelines
  • Answer emergency calls
  • Adhere to facility policies and procedures
  • Report accidents or incidents involving residents, families, visitors and personnel to the Nurse or Manager and complete the appropriate incident report
  • Perform monthly blood pressures and weights
  • Teach good health habits to residents and tenants
  • Assist residents with ambulation, when necessary
  • Provide emergency first aid/care until appropriate medical care is available
  • Assist with moving in and moving out of residents when required
  • Arrive 15 minutes early to review reports daily before each shift
  • Perform daily housekeeping tasks as per policy and procedure
  • Complete facility laundry as per policy and procedure
  • Understand and practice Infection Prevention and Control policies
  • Work collaboratively and promote positive team spirit within the department
  • Maintain good attendance according to company policy
  • Senior staff to assist in the orientation and training of new employees
  • Attend departmental meetings, in-services and other necessary training sessions
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Nurse and Manager
