About The Role

Provide personal care to Elders and help them with all individual daily care to keep them independent as long as possible; and maintain quality of life for Elders by providing a clean, healthy, safe environment.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
Personal Care to Elders
  • Bath, toilet, change briefs, brush teeth, dress, groom, provide hair and nail care, social/personal interaction, feed, make beds and provide privacy in a dignified manner
  • Communicate and try to obtain cooperation from Elders, co-workers, family members, supervisors
Clean
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Elder rooms and workspaces by cleaning wheelchairs, catheter bags, commodes/urinals, wash basins, care carts, beds, bed changes, bed side tables, closets, razors, and bathrooms
  • Distribute clean linens and towels
  • Clean mechanical equipment commodes, urinals, sinks and tubs
Delivery Of Meals
  • Feed and/or assist with feeding Elders
  • Open cartons, cut food, place items within reach
  • Push and distribute the snack cart to the Elders’ rooms
  • Porter meals to Elders’ rooms
Transferring And Lifting
  • Porter Elders to dining rooms, bedrooms, activities
  • Lift garbage and linen bags for disposal
  • Transfer Elders from bed to wheelchair etc.
  • Use mechanical lifts to reposition Elders to and from lounge chairs/wheelchairs, beds, commodes tub chairs etc.
  • Repositioning Elders in bed
  • Application and removal of lift slings when using mechanical lifts
  • Walk, exercise Elders as per care plans or as directed
Charting And Reporting
  • Input to HCA and Dietary Flow sheets to ensure all ADL of Elders have been completed
  • Complete meal and snack sheets daily to ensure Elders are receiving appropriate caloric intake
  • Cleaning schedule and maintenance book
  • Report to Charge Nurse or RPN any resident situation that may occur during the shift
  • Complete audits as assigned by the Supervisor
General
  • Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
  • Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis
