Overview

PEDIATRIC / PERINATAL ANATOMICAL PATHOLOGIST

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at IWK Health and the Department of Pathology at Dalhousie University located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, have a vacancy for a full-time Academic Pediatric & Perinatal Anatomical Pathologist.

IWK Health is a tertiary care pediatric, high-risk obstetrical, and women’s health referral center for the three Maritime provinces. It is the only Canadian Level 1 pediatric trauma center east of Quebec, offers NICU and PICU level care, has a full range of pediatric subspecialists and subspecialist surgeons, and cares for approximately 5000 deliveries per year. The laboratory department has divisions of Anatomical Pathology, Medical Microbiology, Hematopathology, Clinical Biochemistry, and a growing Clinical Genomics/Precision Medicine group.

Qualifications

Qualifications must include an MD degree or equivalent, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification or eligibility in Diagnostic & Molecular (Anatomical) or Diagnostic & Clinical (General) Pathology (or equivalent), and fellowship training or extensive experience in both pediatric & perinatal pathology. Individuals currently in or nearing end of training are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

Candidates should possess strong diagnostic skills in the evaluation, diagnosis and sign out of pediatric surgical pathology, placental pathology and autopsies. Academic responsibilities will include teaching of both residents and students. The successful candidate will join a group of three other pediatric & perinatal pathologists (including one who also practices neuropathology) and share equally in service and on-call responsibilities.

Dalhousie Medical School academic rank is commensurate with experience and level of academic activity.
