Position Overview

Power your future with Qualus in our Human Resource department as a Payroll Specialist. We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll Specialist with in-depth knowledge of Canadian payroll practices and provincial employment legislation. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across multiple provinces, adhering to federal and provincial regulations, and maintaining exceptional data integrity.

Responsibilities
  • Administer full-cycle payroll for Canadian employees, including hourly, salaried, and contract staff.
  • Ensure compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements and provincial employment standards.
  • Calculate statutory deductions (CPP, EI, income tax) and apply provincial rules for vacation pay, statutory holidays, and leaves.
  • Prepare and file year-end documents such as T4, T4A, and RL-1 slips.
  • Manage CRA remittances and provincial health tax reporting.
  • Stay current with legislative changes impacting payroll and communicate updates to stakeholders.
  • Conduct audits on payroll inputs and outputs to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Validate job changes, salary adjustments, and benefit deductions.
  • Utilize payroll platforms (e.g., UKG Pro) for processing and reporting.
  • Generate payroll reports for reconciliations, tax filings, and general ledger entries.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and tax forms.
  • Provide guidance on provincial leave entitlements and statutory holiday calculations.
Qualifications
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation or in progress preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of Canadian payroll experience with multi-province exposure.
  • Strong knowledge of CRA guidelines and provincial employment standards (Ontario, British Columbia, etc.).
  • Proficiency in payroll systems and MS Excel; UKG Pro experience is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information.
