The Payroll specialist works as part of a team to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time by managing the entire payroll process.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates and process payroll in a timely manner ensuring the integrity of payroll data
- Ensure all pay groups are validated before final submission for processing
- Escalate potential service issues to the Payroll Manager
- Managing payroll garnishments, ensuring deductions are computed properly, and completing processing accurately
- Performing reconciliation of group insurance benefits
- Serve as a point of contact for employees and Managers, addressing questions and resolving issues related to their pay.
- Complete statistical reports, statements and summaries related to pay and benefits accounts and submit them to appropriate departments
- Assist in the preparation of year end processing related reporting
- Supporting internal and external audits
- Provide assistance and payroll information to unionized and non-unionized employees
- Act as a temporary replacement during vacation time
- Analyze payroll problems and provide appropriate resolutions.
- Awareness of legislation and payroll procedure relating to international countries: UK, CAN and US
Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of experience in a similar position (full payroll cycle)
- Member of the Canadian Payroll Association/Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation
- Experience with Canada and US payroll processing is a must. Europe payroll and benefits is a definite plus
- Knowledge of UKG would be an asset
- Knowledge of Ceridian HRIS Dayforce is mandatory
- Excellent knowledge of rules and regulations regarding North America payroll standards
- Fluently bilingual in English and French, both written and spoken would be an asset as this role must communicate with out of province stakeholders.
- Ability to multi-task & simultaneously manage a high volume of demanding projects.
- Conduct audits, reconcile discrepancies, and ensure payroll accounts are balanced.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, Outlook, Excel
- Highly discreet when dealing with sensitive employee payroll matters
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to work independently in a time sensitive environment
- Reliable, organized, adapt quickly to change, and deliver under the pressure of tight deadlines
- There are lots of acquisitions so, must be comfortable with implementations.
