Pastor of Children & Family Ministries – Summit Drive Church

Summit Drive Church is a diverse, community-minded congregation who feel called to glorify God by developing caring, passionate followers of Jesus Christ. We believe that God is on mission and calling his people to join him on mission within our city and beyond. Summit Drive Church is located in the beautiful city of Kamloops, British Columbia, where it was planted in 1981 and is associated with the North American Baptist Conference. Summit Drive Church is a mid-sized congregation, with Sunday attendance ranging between 450 and 675 (with three services and online presence), and approximately 1,100 people who call Summit Drive Church their home church.

This exciting full-time role will give leadership within a dynamic team environment, alongside the rest of the children’s ministry team, to facilitate the discipleship of children at Summit Drive, encourage and equip parents in their important role as primary disciple-makers, and to provide opportunities for the community to hear the Good News of Jesus.

Duties
  • Oversee Children’s Ministry
    • Manage a team of ministry assistants and administrators, which includes leading weekly team meetings, monitoring work hours, assisting the lead pastor with hiring staff and yearly staff reviews.
    • Communicate regularly with families and volunteers, both in person on Sundays, and through written or phone correspondence as appropriate.
    • Facilitate the administration of the Sunday program and volunteers.
    • Give oversight and leadership to the volunteer team for our mid-week AWANA program (Sept–Feb)
    • Oversee the recruitment, screening, training, and scheduling of staff and volunteers for children’s ministries—including Sunday morning and AWANA.
  • Providing Vision and Resources for Children and Family Discipleship
    • Oversee the Kid’s Church curriculum.
    • Provide support for parents as primary disciple makers—including parent night out, marriage course, parenting course, etc.
  • Oversee Children’s Related Special Events
    • Lead and recruit for outreach events like VBS, Christmas outreach, etc.
    • Provide support for children’s ministry for special events like Block Party, Church Camp, and Trunk or Treat.
    • Plan a bi-annual Christmas Concert.
  • Serve as a Member of the Pastoral Team
    • As gifted, be given opportunities to preach and teach as required.
    • Perform pastoral functions as required—weddings, funerals, pastoral care.
Requirements and Qualifications

This candidate must be a mature follower of Jesus who is dedicated to the ministry of the local church, must be open and teachable, and must work well in a team setting. This candidate will require a bachelor’s degree (preferably in Religious Studies, Education, or related fields), and preferably a graduate-level theological degree, and have at least four years of experience in working with children and families in a church setting. This role requires someone who is gifted at leading, equipping, and supervising other staff and volunteers.
