PAACT (Pet & Animal Advocacy Care Team) is a fast-growing, grassroots registered nonprofit in Southern Alberta committed to strengthening the bond between pets and their people through compassion, education, and proactive community care. We are searching for dedicated, kind-hearted, and animal-loving individuals to join us on this meaningful journey.

Overview

Why volunteer with PAACT?

A Role Tailored to You

At PAACT, we believe in empowering our volunteers by aligning their strengths with purposeful roles. Whether you thrive in hands-on animal care, are passionate about public education, excel in logistics and planning, or prefer working behind the scenes — there is a place for you here. From rehoming support and outreach to event planning or digital content creation, we match you with meaningful tasks that reflect your gifts.

Flexibility & Freedom

We know that life is busy — which is why over 40% of our roles are remote-friendly and adaptable to your schedule. While we aim for consistency, especially for core and leadership positions, many of our roles are very flexible. We do ask that core volunteers commit a minimum of 10 hours per week to ensure continuity and impact.

Real imPAACT

Every task you take on directly supports the well-being of vulnerable pets and the families who love them. Whether you’re coordinating a food delivery, sharing information about a missing pet, supporting a grief group, or assisting a pet owner in crisis, your efforts play a vital role in reducing shelter surrenders, preventing emergencies, and making compassionate care more accessible to those who need it most.

You will join a deeply empathetic team of volunteers who care about animals and people. We meet pet owners where they are — with dignity, understanding, and without judgment. Our shared values are rooted in advocacy, sustainability, and strengthening the human-animal bond.

Opportunities for Everyone

Whether you are a student, semi-retired, working from home, or someone simply looking to make a difference, we welcome you.

You might help :

  • Build insulated outdoor shelters for stray cats through our Frosty Paws Sanctuaries
  • Stock and distribute pet essentials for families via the Care Closet
  • Support responsible rehoming efforts through Tail End Journey
  • Participate in grief support groups like Whiskers Over the Rainbow
  • Assist with education, outreach, and community events
  • Create content for social media and public education campaigns
  • Contribute to grant writing, donor outreach, and nonprofit development

And so much more!

Grow with Us

All new core volunteers start with a 90-day onboarding period where they are welcomed, supported, and matched with a role that suits their interests and skills. From there, you may choose to grow into a leadership or board position, contributing to strategic planning, program development, and long-term sustainability.

As a board or strategic volunteer, you will help shape the direction of PAACT across Southern Alberta by guiding program structure, strengthening partnerships, and advocating for pets and their people on a broader scale.

Other Opportunities with PAACT Pet and Animal Advocacy Care Team

Frosty Paws Sanctuaries is one of PAACT’s annual community initiatives, dedicated to building insulated winter shelters for stray and feral cats across Southern Alberta. These shelters provide warmth and protection during harsh winter months, offering a lifeline to vulnerable animals who would otherwise face extreme weather without refuge.

In 2024, 39 shelters were completed and distributed throughout Lethbridge and surrounding communities. This year, our goal is to build 75 shelters with the support of volunteers and community members.

By volunteering, you will directly contribute to saving lives and improving the welfare of stray and feral cats in our community. Each shelter built represents a safe, warm refuge that helps an animal survive the winter.

The Events & Fundraising Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting PAACT’s mission by planning, organizing, and executing community events and fundraising initiatives. This person helps turn compassion into action—bringing people together to support vulnerable pets and the families who love them.

Thanks for your interest in this volunteer position!

We'll just need a bit of information so we can pass your application along to PAACT Pet and Animal Advocacy Care Team.

Volunteers can sign up for up to 3 continuing commitment opportunities for immediate referrals. If you signed up for more than 3, a Volunteer Lethbridge staff member will connect with you before making new referrals.
