Job description
Overview

The Nursing Manager is a key clinical and operational leader within our healthcare staffing agency. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality nursing care by overseeing recruitment, placement, performance, and compliance of agency nurses. The manager also serves as the primary liaison between the agency and healthcare facility clients, building and maintaining strong professional relationships.

This role offers a flexible schedule and is primarily remote, but requires occasional travel across Ontario for site visits, audits, and meetings with clients and nursing staff. The ideal candidate will be an experienced registered nurse with leadership experience and strong operational, compliance, and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
1. Recruitment, Hiring & Placement
  • Actively recruit, interview, and hire qualified nurses in alignment with agency policies and College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards.
  • Evaluate candidate qualifications, clinical experience, and compatibility with various client assignments.
  • Strategically match nurses to client assignments considering skills, experience, preferences, and facility requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to manage staff schedules, ensuring optimal coverage and timely staffing.
  • Support onboarding and orientation of new hires, providing guidance on policies, procedures, and expectations.
2. Compliance, Quality Assurance & Clinical Oversight
  • Ensure all nursing staff maintain compliance with CNO regulations, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), infection control protocols, and client-specific policies.
  • Conduct both remote and in-person audits of facilities to assess service quality, staff performance, and adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Identify gaps in compliance or performance and develop actionable improvement plans.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of licenses, certifications, training, and continuing education of all nursing staff.
3. Staff Performance Management & Professional Development
  • Monitor nursing staff performance through remote assessments, client feedback, and site evaluations.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and guidance to enhance staff competency and confidence.
  • Address performance issues proactively and constructively, implementing improvement plans or disciplinary measures as necessary.
  • Develop and facilitate professional development programs, skills training, and continuing education opportunities for agency nurses.
4. Client & Relationship Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for healthcare facility clients regarding staffing needs, clinical concerns, and quality assurance.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with clients by responding promptly to concerns and providing strategic staffing solutions.
  • Represent the agency professionally during site visits, meetings, and audits, ensuring a high level of client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with internal recruitment, scheduling, and operations teams to coordinate services and address any operational challenges.
5. Documentation, Reporting & Operational Improvement
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of site visits, staff performance evaluations, compliance audits, and client communications.
  • Prepare detailed reports for agency leadership highlighting staffing metrics, compliance outcomes, trends, and recommendations for improvements.
  • Analyze operational and staffing trends to propose enhancements in service delivery, staff training, and client satisfaction.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Education & Licensing
  • Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) - preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience in diverse care settings, with at least 2 years in a leadership, supervisory, or management role.
  • Experience in healthcare staffing, agency operations, or remote clinical management is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience conducting audits, managing multiple client relationships, and mentoring nursing staff is an asset.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong clinical knowledge and expertise in nursing practices, Ontario healthcare regulations, and quality assurance standards.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills for remote and in-person interactions.

Working Conditions
  • Primarily remote work with flexible hours to accommodate staffing and client needs.
  • Occasional travel throughout Ontario for site visits, audits, and meetings with clients or staff.
  • Flexible schedule may include evenings and weekends based on operational requirements.
  • Valid Ontario drivers license and reliable transportation required for site visits.
