Job Summary
Under the supervision of nursing staff members assists in providing nursing care, prepares records and maintains a clean environment. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I.
Job Qualifications
- Education: High School or equivalent
- Personal job-related skills: Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Licensure, registry or certification: BLS certification
- Prior Work Experience: One year in a medical environment
- Technical Training: Current BLS. Training. Nursing Assistant course desirable
- Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking. Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless..
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assures that each patient receives quality care.
- Performs personal care according to requirements of the patient including bathing, perineal care, shaving, grooming hair, mouth care as condition of patient warrants and as directed, feeding patient and collecting specimens.
- Keeps room neat and tidy at all times, patient dry and free of secretions and answers call lights in a prompt manner.
- Performs procedures designed to prevent physical deterioration of the patient including positioning patient and giving skin care as directed, getting patient out of bed or ambulating as directed, working gently and handling patients with special conditions in the specified manner, and performing catheter care as directed.
- Provides care appropriate for the neonate and the pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Observes and reports data on neonate and the pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients’ status to identify patients’ requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.
- Provides respect due each patient, family and coworker.
- Avoids unnecessary exposure during care.
- Speaks politely to and considers preferences of patients.
- Includes patients in decision making.
- Introduces self and states why there.
- Refrains from engaging in casual conversation with coworkers in open areas in view of patients and visitors.
- Participates in the patient care management.
- Reports important facts or observations to LVN and/or supervisor.
- Attends change of shift report and makes notes of facts that are important to nursing care.
- Assists in the transportation of patients.
- Functions proficiently in unit nursing modalities.
- Maintains accurate and timely records according to hospital policy and procedures.
- Documents vital signs, intake and output and appropriate portion of admission history as directed
