Job summary

A community health organization is seeking a Novice Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join their operating room team. The successful candidate will provide preoperative teaching, assess and implement patient care, and maintain nursing records. Ideal candidates will have a Post Graduate Operating Room Certificate and at least one year of surgical nursing experience. This role requires availability for all shifts and demonstrates strong organizational and independent working skills.

Qualifications

• Current Certificate of Registration in good standing, or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Completed Post Graduate Operating Room Certificate.
• Minimum of 1-year operating room or surgical nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in the operating room.

Qualifications

• Current Certificate of Registration in good standing, or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Completed Post Graduate Operating Room Certificate
• Current CPR or BCLS certificate
• Minimum of 1-year operating room or surgical nursing experience
• Available to work all shifts (days, evenings, weekends) and on call duty
• Must have demonstrated ability to work independently and have strong organizational skills
• Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload (Physical Demands Analysis PDA available to review)
• Medical Surveillance is required for personnel routinely working with mechanical equipment and the class of lasers used in the OR. A hearing test and eye exam must be arranged

Duties

• Utilizes the Nursing Process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.
• Provides preoperative teaching to patients & families as required.
• Performs acts requiring specialized knowledge, skills and judgment in assessing health needs and in planning, administering and evaluating patient care in the operating room environment.
• Responsible to work collaboratively with other members of the health care team who contribute to the provision of patient care.
• Maintains nursing records.
• Participates in Quality Improvement programs to ensure a high level of patient care.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Required Occasionally – lifting and carrying average weight 20 pounds and max 50, pushing/pulling average 10-15 pounds and max 30 pounds, patient assist approx. 100 pounds
