Job description

About the Role
As a Naval Architect, you will be responsible for designing, testing, and refining our Dynamic Air Cushion Vehicle (DACV). Your role will involve overseeing the vessel’s hull structure, hydrodynamics, power systems, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, including meeting Transport Canada approval standards. You will lead the development of a prototype and a functional customer demonstrator vessel within 18 months.

We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented individual who can balance immediate goals with long-term scalability. Your insights will shape the future of marine transportation, helping us build and maintain a competitive edge as we continue to refine our intellectual property. You will report directly to the Head of Design and Technology and work closely with our team in Squamish and other partners to bring our designs to life, and build a highly valuable company.

What You’ll Do

  • Report directly to the Head of Design and Technology.
  • Focus on the design, construction, testing, and analysis of the vehicle.
  • Collaborate on the innovative design of the DACV, leveraging your expertise in marine vessel design to deliver a fully tested prototype in 6 months and a customer-ready demonstrator in less than 18 months.
  • Guide both in-house teams and external partners through the prototype build process. Your hands-on experience will be essential in ensuring compliance with classification organizations and Transport Canada.
  • Evaluate the performance of prototypes through analytical frameworks, working alongside experts in aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, and controls.
  • Transform testing results into valuable insights for future designs, file patents, and contribute to the company’s leadership in marine technology.

Your Background

  • Proven track record of innovation in marine vessel design, with the ability to integrate new technologies.
  • Familiarity with standard design tools (Rhino, AutoCAD, CADMATIC) and the ability to apply them in novel scenarios.
  • Extensive experience in product design, including stability analysis, hull form design, propulsion estimation, and safety system design.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulations, classification societies, and Transport Canada’s approval processes.
  • Hands-on experience in design and construction is advantageous.
  • Strong expertise in 3D modeling and familiarity with marine classification rules and first-principles calculations.
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer registration in British Columbia is a plus.

Location: Join us at Celerity Craft to help revolutionize marine transportation and contribute to the global shift toward sustainable energy solutions.
