Overview

Our Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for Music Instructors to teach group and private music lessons for children, adults and parent participation classes for babies and toddlers. Music programs include, but are not limited to: private and group voice lessons for children and adults, early years and preschool aged music programs, adult group music lessons. Evening and weekend hours are required for this opportunity.

If you have experience teaching singing, choir, music and movement for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, or private and small group lessons in a specific instrument, please connect with us through this application process.

The successful candidates will have professional training in music, substantial experience as instructors with their respective instruments, knowledge of community recreation philosophies and instruction techniques, and experience working with children and adults. Candidates must also possess excellent leadership, organizational and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and general leadership according to the nature and requirements of the program
  • Prepare and implement lesson plans and activities
  • Follow safety protocols
  • Work independently without direct supervision
  • Be self-motivated and take initiative in creating opportunities for participants
  • Provide supervision and leadership to their program group
  • Perform related work as required

Requirements

  • A university degree in music or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Standard First Aid
  • CPR C Certificate
  • Minimum of 1 year experience instructing classes
  • In-depth knowledge of music
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to motivate others to help achieve their goals
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass and maintain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
