General Purpose

Reporting to the Manager, Classroom Technical Infrastructure, the Multimedia Information Technology Specialist (MMITS) supports the University of Guelph’s teaching and learning environments by ensuring the reliable operation of audiovisual (AV), hybrid learning, and collaboration technologies across all classrooms, meeting rooms, and event spaces.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced classrooms and hybrid audiovisual support for installed equipment for faculty, staff and students.
  • Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting AV equipment such as projectors, microphones, control systems, and web conferencing tools in a commercial integration environment.
  • Performing preventative maintenance and routine checks to ensure AV systems are functioning optimally.
  • Providing first-level support and training to faculty and staff on AV systems and hybrid learning technologies.
  • Assisting with and running AV setups for campus events and transporting equipment between locations, including recording, production and media support.
  • Collaborating with technology teams and facilities teams on AV upgrades and renovations.
Requirements
  • Three-Year Community College Diploma in Audio-Visual Technology, Electronic Engineering, Information Technology, Broadcast Technology, Media Production or related field.
  • Up to five (5) years of experience in AV equipment setup and troubleshooting, preferably in an educational or corporate setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Familiarity with AV control systems (Crestron/Extron), video conferencing platforms (Zoom, MS Teams), and AV-over-IP technologies.
  • Valid G-Class Driver’s License
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, lift and mount equipment up to 30 kgs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced AV certifications
  • Experience in higher education AV environments
  • AV-over-IP and Dante experience
