What will you be doing!
- Providing guidance and oversight to Capital Project schedulers.
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to Capital Project schedule development and maintenance in collaboration with the Capital Project Program Office (CPPO), Program Management Office (PMO), and Capital Project teams.
- Working with internal stakeholders to develop and maintain high-quality schedules that align with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) procedures and resolve potential conflicts.
- Leading the rollout of new or updated project schedule improvement initiatives derived from CNL Award Fee evaluations and input from PMO, CNL senior management, and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL).
- Increasing awareness and understanding of project critical paths, including tracking changes and delays to schedule end dates and analyzing their associated impacts.
- Focusing on the full project lifecycle and ensuring projects are managed to achieve outcomes within sanctioned parameters.
- Discouraging the use of poor scheduling techniques such as hard constraints, lags, and finish-to-finish relationships.
- Leading schedule awareness sessions and delivering training to project teams on scheduling best practices and relevant CNL procedures, promoting standardization and quality improvement across the organization.
- Providing ad-hoc support and recommendations to project teams for resolving scheduling issues encountered during project execution.
- Mentoring and guiding Program Control Coordinators (PCCs) within the CPPO and Capital Project teams.
- Supporting the development of Gating & Sanctioning scheduling deliverables, including Basis of Schedule documents.
- Developing schedule strategies for complex programs and projects, including the integration of third-party providers.
- Performing schedule and scheduling deliverable reviews to ensure quality and compliance.
- Conducting formal project assurance reviews of project schedules to support successful progression through CNL’s Gating & Sanctioning process.
- Communicating effectively with project teams to clarify review comments and providing recommendations and solutions for their resolution.
- Supporting CPPO reviews of what-if schedules to ensure high-quality change control submissions to the PMO.
- Leading continuous improvement of Capital baseline schedules by performing schedule reviews and developing improvement initiatives for implementation across the Mission.
- Performing formal project assurance reviews of schedule-related Gating & Sanctioning deliverables, including Basis of Schedule documents.
- Leading the development, maintenance, and oversight of Capital’s critical path schedules.
- Maintaining and advancing the critical path schedules for Capital projects to ensure accuracy and alignment with project objectives.
- Analyzing and communicating variances and discrepancies between baseline schedules and current project schedules.
- Reporting changes to project critical paths and assessing their impacts.
- Facilitating strategic quality reviews and ensuring the critical paths function correctly to provide a reliable and analyzable product for stakeholders.
- Providing temporary hands-on support for the development of project schedules, providing staff mentorship and enabling mission-wide standardization.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University combined with progressive experience. An equivalent combination of formal training and progressive experience will be considered.
- Valid PMI certification, such as PMP, CAPM, or PMI-SP, is preferred but considered an asset.
- Experience
- A minimum of 10 years of continuous project scheduling experience, including experience with project schedule development, schedule maintenance, schedule oversight, formal project reviews, variance analysis, change management, strategic planning, integration of third-party schedules with the owner schedule, following procedures and industry best practices.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to investigate complex problems throughout the development/maintenance of a project schedule and produce effective schedules that align with CNL procedures and universal best practices.
- Ability to effectively troubleshoot and resolve front-end issues with Primavera P6.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to accurately evaluate detailed project scopes for the application to project schedules.
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work on fixed, tight deadlines, and to plan and prioritize work in advance in order to work efficiently and accurately.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with senior management, stakeholders, and project team members, both orally and in writing, to gain a thorough understanding of challenges and apply/recommend effective solutions.
- Strong mentorship abilities.
- Ability to review schedules and scheduling deliverables to confirm quality and compliance with industry and CNL standards for meeting technical requirements.
- Demonstrated proactivity and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
