Your Opportunity

Our Mining Minerals and Metals team is growing in Canada, and we are looking for a leader in Integrated Mine Closure. As a subject matter expert in mine closure planning, risk reduction and mine reclamation, you will apply your technical skill set to help further grow and develop our cross-disciplinary team in Canada and collaborate with other Stantec experts globally.

The role will require you to interact with clients, manage interdisciplinary projects and initiatives and oversee individuals that work on life of mine closure engineering, reclamation planning, liability assessments, environmental and social risk reduction measures, and the execution of mine closure projects. Tasks will be project and internal Stantec initiative based and include advising on multi-disciplinary mine and alternative end use planning and providing technical contributions to client deliverables including closure and reclamation designs, reclamation costing and financial liabilities assessments, closure and progressive reclamation management plans and direction of related execution programs.

Other responsibilities will include client relationship development, budget and proposal development, training and mentorship of junior staff, and program management of schedules, budgets, and client deliverables. This role is focused on the mining sector and the successful candidate will be part of an experienced Energy and Resources team in Canada.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to mine closure planning and execution, including preparation of mine closure plans and designs, liability estimates, risk assessments, cover assessments and reclamation plans, closure management plans and implementation of mine closure and reclamation programs.
  • Carry out office duties such as design support and report preparation, data analysis and interpretation; estimating and direct multi-disciplinary team in the execution of project objectives and coordination and contribution to environmental assessments and permitting activities related to mine closure and reclamation.
  • Plan and implement reclamation and closure execution, construction monitoring and quality control programs on large and small scale mine closure sites, with focus on safe work.
  • Provide technical guidance on closure and reclamation liability reduction, risk management strategies and mine development optimization with clients and project teams
  • Develop and maintain client relationships
  • Manage task deadlines, budgets, and deliverables
  • Contribute to client growth initiatives and prepare proposal scopes and budgets for mine closure and reclamation works
  • Work with the Stantec team to ensure training plans and performance targets are identified and met for individual team members
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • 10-15 years of relevant closure and reclamation related experience in Canada (experience in northern Canada is an asset)
  • Ability to work with initiative, professionalism, and confidentiality, and can multi-task and adapt to change in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to contribute to the development of technical documents
  • Strong understanding of closure liabilities, execution risks and mine operations in Canada
  • Experience and willingness to engage with clients and develop strong relationships to build client base and increase service offerings
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, engineering, land reclamation or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in mining
  • Experience with closure and reclamation planning at all stages of projects from exploration or pre-feasibility through to closure execution. Experience with regulators is an asset.
  • Experience working in remote locations
  • Field work may include work in remote environments, challenging terrain, and exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 pounds.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario - $113,500.00 - $170,300.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
