Position Overview

The Mental Health Support Worker as a member of a multidisciplinary team will assist in carrying out individual service plans under the direction of the Clinical team members on the Mental Health Team. The Mental Health Support Worker is responsible for rehabilitative and supportive functions including skill building/enhancement, creation and maintenance of formal and informal support networks, linking to and maintaining formal and informal support services, provision of appropriate and accurate information and consultation with families as related to skill building/enhancement and development of supports.

Experience
  • Two years of related experience with people with mental health issues, or other human service.
  • Experience in life skill teaching and support to individuals who struggle with mental health issues or other disabilities or conditions.
  • Experience in developing, planning and coordinating services.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • University or College education in human services, other related disciplines, or high school diploma and related training.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Requires a valid driver's license and a vehicle.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of Recovery as it applies to individuals with mental illness.
  • Knowledge of community support services related to income, housing, employment social integration and self-help.
  • Demonstrated skills and competence to establish supportive, trusting relationships with individuals and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, creativity and be an enthusiastic team member.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective networking and agency relations skills.
  • Knowledge of assessment, crisis intervention, service coordination and community consultation.
  • Able to use problem resolution skills to handle sensitive and complex issues related to multiple service involvement and interdisciplinary teams.
Physical Requirements
  • Evening and weekend work will be required.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
