Position Title : Member Experience Representative

Location : Kamloops Downtown YMCA (400 Battle Street, Kamloops)

Term : Part-Time Permanent

Hours : 8-24 hours per week

Shift : Shifts vary but will include weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Coverage needed between 5:15 am - 9:15 pm.

Start Date : ASAP

Salary : $17.85 per hour

Reports To : Supervisor, Member Experience

Nature & Scope

Reporting directly to the Member Experience Supervisor and working collaboratively with the Member Services Team, Fitness Director, and YMCA Staff and Volunteers, the Member Services Representative will provide exceptional customer service to members and the public accessing the YMCA facility. The primary focus is to assist and support members, as well as membership sales, engagement, and retention, while supporting the delivery of YMCA SAM Standards and member programs and services within the branch.

The Member Services Representative will work various shifts, including evenings and weekends at the Downtown YMCA. Duties include: providing customer service, responding to inquiries, cash handling, data entry, membership sales and retention, light cleaning, and supporting other departments within the facility.

Major Responsibilities - in this position, you will :

  1. Promote membership and program sales and services positively and professionally
  2. Provide facility tours following YMCA standards and the 7 steps of the selling process
  3. Meet and exceed sales targets
  4. Assist members and guests with fitness-related questions, including machine use, equipment locations, and basic exercise inquiries
  5. Perform member orientation for the fitness floor and equipment use
  6. Oversee fitness floor, programming, and member behavior
  7. Use established systems to record and report on member satisfaction and activity trends
  8. Promote and educate about all relevant program offerings for members and families
  9. Provide exemplary customer service to all members, guests, and participants
  10. Learn and use member names during interactions
  11. Engage in phone calls and member retention calls
  12. Ensure adherence to SAM Standards for service excellence
  13. Support program areas including fitness, child, family, and youth programming
  14. Assist with member and participant check-in processes
  15. Help set up programming areas like group fitness and youth programs
  16. Assist in training new staff and volunteers
  17. Be adaptable to schedule and program changes
  18. Diffuse conflicts using Non-violent Crisis Intervention methods
  19. Maintain safety standards for members, staff, and property
  20. Remain calm and use supportive language in stressful situations
  21. Keep environment neat, orderly, and clean, including all spaces and change rooms
  22. Conduct regular walk-throughs to ensure safety and cleanliness

Qualifications - you bring :

  1. Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C & AED certification
  2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems
  3. Minimum one year experience in customer service and sales
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  5. Experience in a fitness facility or recreation center is an asset
  6. Reliable transit access or a vehicle
  7. Secondary school diploma or equivalent
  8. Current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check / Vulnerable Sector Search issued within six months of start date
  9. Three professional references
