Do you have recent and relevant experience in a Canadian Hospital Laboratory? Do you enjoy challenging and rewarding work? We currently have an opportunity for a Medical Lab Technologist 1, Microbiology located in Yellowknife, NT. You will provide laboratory medicine expertise for the Microbiology section of the Stanton Territorial Hospital Laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare information about general microbiology and the intricacies of infectious diseases, arranging for the collection of specimens and performing investigative, scientific analysis.
- Examines a variety of biological and environmental samples using standard microbiology procedure to ensure that medical and non-medical professionals have the test results necessary to diagnose, treat and manage disease and address public health issues.
- Supply in-hospital and territorial referral services to several medical laboratories throughout the Northwest Territories and the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- A recognized Medical Laboratory Technology Program at minimum of a diploma or degree level from an accredited Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.
- Internationally trained Medical Laboratory Technologists must have at least 3 years of working experience in a Canadian Hospital Microbiology Laboratory.
-New graduates waiting to write their certification examination will be considered however; registration must be achieved prior to beginning employment with Laboratory Services.
- Must be eligible for registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science.
- Knowledge of and an ability to input and retrieve information from Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is an asset.
